What is MXFortress?

Our MXFortress service is a premium gateway service designed for mail administrators that need to significantly reduce their bandwidth and server overhead as well as the effort and costs expended stopping spam. Many of our customers are already using an anti-spam product they know and trust. Many times they have significant investments in time and money and do not want to change their current production methods. The Alligate MXFortress service is not necessarily designed to replace your current anti-spam/anti-virus systems, it is designed to reduce your traffic to a much more manageable level.

Any product can claim to have impressive blocking rates but in reality, some spam will always sneak through. Our users have an average reduction in total messages hitting their servers of around 93%. The actual amount of spam blocked averages around 96%. This is not hype, these are real world numbers that we guarantee are accurate and indicative of what you can expect from MXFortress. This means that your current system will only need to deal with about 4% of the spam (or less) than you have been used to. And, this starts immediately. There is no training, nothing to set up, and nothing to maintain. As a mail administrator, you can then spend your time much more efficiently.

Easy Setup:

  • There is no software or hardware for you to install.

  • Once your account has been created, we will provide you with a host name. You will need to change your MX record(s) to point to the host name we send you.

  • Once the MX records have been changed messages will start being delivered to our gateways for your domains. Legitimate email will be forwarded to your mail server automatically.

How it Works:

  • Remote senders will request a connection from our gateway,

  • We will first check the sending servers reputation using our exclusive MXRate database. We do not rely on any third party RBLs or databases.

  • The country or origin is also checked.

  • Recipients are validated in real time by checking that your mail server will accept mail for that recipient.

  • Numerous envelope tests are applied to identify zombies and improperly formatted conversations.

  • Various defense mechanisms are used including tarpitting and greylisting for suspicious messages.

  • If the message survives, it will immediately be delivered to your mail server.

Requirements:

  • You must have your own mail server. MXFortress supports virtually all SMTP mail servers running on any operating system. If your mail server is hosted, you can still use MXFortress. Please contact us for more information.

  • Your mail server must support recipient validation. The only known servers that do not support this are older (pre-2003) versions of Microsoft Exchange.

Pricing:

MXFortress is priced by the number of domains and mailboxes you intend to protect. There is a flat monthly charge of $10 per primary domain name. A primary domain is considered your top level domain. Sub-domains of a primary domain are included at no change. Mailboxes are licensed in blocks so that you do not have to change your license for every user you add.
